Know what small part to offer when your child wants to help.

Helping at Home is an illustrated, Montessori-Inspired parent guide for families with children ages 3–6. Across 15 household moments, it shows you which small role to offer, how to demonstrate it, and what to do when the try needs to change or end.

English digital PDFs in A4 and US Letter. Household materials are not included; no physical product is shipped.

Start with two napkins

You are getting the table ready and your child wants to join. Turn to “Carry the Napkins.” The guide gives your child a specific role: carry two napkins to the table. Show the three movements: hold, walk, place. You handle the rest of the table setup.

The role ends when the napkins arrive, even if they are crooked. If two are too much, carry one together. If carrying does not fit today, place the napkins yourself and invite your child to choose where one goes.

You can see the role, demonstration and fallback together before you begin. You remain responsible for anything hot, sharp, heavy or breakable.

What the guide helps you decide

  • Which part can my child try? Each moment names one small role within the larger job.
  • How do I show it? Three visible movements give you a demonstration to follow.
  • What if it is too much today? A smaller version and a fallback give you another way to include your child.
  • When do we finish? A stopping point tells you when the role can end. You still own the full task and its final result.

When you have time and can stay close, use Participation Mode. When you are rushed or the task needs your full attention, use Completion Mode and finish it yourself. Your child can watch or join another day.

The One Moment, One Small Role method page is shown from the parent's reading side beside a plate and spoon.
The method page brings the role, demonstration, and stopping point together, so you can offer one part of the job while keeping responsibility for the rest.

What is included

  • Two 27-page PDFs: the same content separately formatted for A4 and US Letter.
  • A 24-page illustrated guide with 15 household moments covering the table, laundry, putting things away, small cleaning actions, and food preparation.
  • Readiness and safety guidance, a method for building your own small role, and quick-reference pages.
  • Three optional card sheets containing 15 visual cue cards, included at the end of each PDF.

Download format: 2 PDFs in A4 and US Letter. Your download email lets you download each PDF separately; no ZIP extraction is needed for these files. A ZIP of the complete pack is also available. Both paper sizes contain the same 27 unique content pages.

Open the Helping at Home guide in either paper size. The optional cards are included in the same PDF. For printing, choose the paper size in your printer.

The actual fifteen-moment quick index from Helping at Home shows small roles and their guide page numbers. It is one example from the digital parent guide.
The fifteen-moment index links everyday household situations to one small role and its guide page. It is one example from the 24-page guide; the 15 optional visual cue cards follow on three additional pages.

Use it during the work you already do

Read the safety and readiness page, then use the fifteen-moment index on page 22 to find a role that fits the work already happening. Use suitable household objects and stay nearby. Read the guide on screen or print selected pages. If you use the optional cards, print at 100% / Actual Size and let an adult cut them out.

Before you choose

Is this a chore chart? The cards cue one action in its real setting. There are no completion targets or rewards to work through.

Does my child need to finish the job? No. One item, one movement, or watching may be enough. You remain responsible for the full task and final result.

Will every role suit every child? Choose by readiness, materials, and your home. Ages are a guide. Active adult supervision is required, and the pack does not promise cooperation or faster housework.
